Zimbabwe has many awe-inspiring natural attractions, and Victoria Falls ranks right at the top. A reputable tour company can ensure that your visit to this majestic destination will be truly unforgettable. With their carefully crafted Victoria Falls tours, you won’t have to worry about planning, and they take care of everything for you.

Boasting an impressive width of one kilometre, and a staggering height of 100 meters, Victoria Falls is surely the most awe-inspiring sight to behold that serves as a meeting point for four countries: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Botswana. More than that, it also holds the title of having the greatest volume of water compared to any other waterfall on earth. With its size, it’s no wonder you can hear it from 40 kilometres away and spot its mist and spray from a distance of 50 meters. These incredible features earned this attraction its nickname, ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya,’ meaning ‘the smoke that thunders.’

A bit of history

Victoria Falls was named after Queen Victoria by David Livingstone, a well-known Scottish missionary and explorer in Africa. It wasn’t until 1905 that more people started visiting the area, particularly when the railway to Bulawayo was built. Victoria Falls tours increased in number when Zimbabwe became independent in 1980. Almost 300,000 people visited the Falls annually by the end of 1990. Today, Victoria Falls is a recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Victoria Falls was formed in an area of crustal faults. Many islands divide the main flow on their crests, creating multiple branches. When floods occur, the water flow can reach half a million litres per minute. Water levels in the falls vary throughout the year, and they are typically lowest in October and early November and reach their peak in April as the rainy season ends.

Itineraries you’ll love

One of the best Victoria Falls tours is a Southern Africa safari that includes Zimbabwe. It is part of the itinerary of a 16-day tour when coming from Johannesburg. Your trip includes an overnight stay at an exclusive guest house.
